Your first stop on this tour is to see the Kelpies Monument and you might just be grateful that they're not this enormous in 'real life'. However, that's not what this monument was built for. Created by artist Andy Scott, these icons are modelled after Clydesdale horses Duke and Baron, a symbol of the lineage of heavy horses throughout Scottish history that helped shape the surrounding region of Falkirk. Leaving behind these awe-inspiring creatures, it's time for a pleasant drive through the rolling countryside of the Kingdom of Fife to Falkland. Falkland Palace dominates this old village and was one of the main residences of the old Royal family of Scotland, the Stewarts (Stuarts). Aside from the palace, the village is simply one of the most beautiful in Scotland with an array of old cottages and narrow winding streets. Not to mention the kick Outlander fans will get when they recognise this as the location for 1940s Inverness in the popular TV series. Next up is where you've been waiting for: the medieval town of St Andrews. St Andrew is the patron Saint of Scotland, and according to legend, his remains were washed up on the Fife coast. St Andrews is also home to the third oldest university in Britain and a beautiful ruined castle perched on a cliff. You have around three hours to explore this fascinating town. As you head back towards Glasgow, you stop in at Queensferry Crossing and get a great view of one of Scotland's greatest man-made landmarks, the Forth Rail Bridge. You arrive back in Glasgow in the early evening. You leave Glasgow and travel the short distance towards Loch Lomond. At over 22 miles long, it’s one of the largest lochs in Scotland. Our first stop is on the southern shore of the loch where you can join a one-hour boat cruise. While sailing along, you enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and castles along the shoreline. You also venture out towards Inchmurrin Island, the largest of Loch Lomond's 33 islands and home to the ancient remains of Lennox Castle, a hiding spot for Robert the Bruce before he was to become King of Scotland. Back on dry land, our next stop is lunch at the picturesque village of Luss. Here, you can walk around the centre and take photos of quaint cottages, or stroll along a little beach on the bank of Loch Lomond and admire the view of Ben Lomond. After a day of mountain air, lochs and forests; you travel back to Glasgow’s Clydeside Whisky Distillery. Located in the famous Queen’s Dock, this state-of-the-art distillery brings the production of single malt back to the city. Here, you can go on a tour and see for yourself how this whisky is distilled from grain to glass. If you’re not a whisky fan, your friendly guide can drop you off at Buchanan Bus Station earlier, so you can explore the city’s vibrant bars and music venues at your own pace. Visit three castles and a well-preserved village on this adventure through the sights and stories of Outlander. You leave Glasgow and begin following the trail of the best-known film locations featured in the Outlander TV Series. You journey past Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument to Doune Castle, or as it’s called in Outlander, Castle Leoch. This formidable building gives you an insight into the living conditions of a Scottish earl in the 14th century. You can also listen to an excellent audio guide about how this castle was used as a filming location for Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Heading north, your next stop is the small town of Falkland to relive the first scenes of the show, where Falkland substitutes 1940’s Inverness. See if you can recognize the familiar sights such as Mrs. Baird’s Guesthouses and the Bruce Fountain. Next is the charming village of Culross. In Outlander Culross posed as the fictional village of Cranesmuir and the home of Geillis Duncan and her ill-fated husband, Arthur. Exploring the town’s cobbled streets is like taking a step back in time. Look carefully and you may even find Claire’s herb garden behind the impressive, historic Culross Palace. Midhope Castle* is your next highlight. Unfortunately, visitors are unable to go inside the castle, but Jamie’s lovely Lallybroch home is still an essential photo opportunity for any fan of the show. You then travel the short distance to Blackness Castle**. It’s an impressive castle that’s known as the ‘ship that never sailed’ because it resembles a giant stone boat. You have time to walk along the ramparts and explore the fictional headquarters of Jack Randall. Your final stop of the day is Linlithgow Palace. Here you have time to enjoy beautiful views to the Forth bridges, walk by the loch, and explore the ruins of Mary Queen of Scots’ birthplace. And if you’re feeling brave, you can visit the spot where that gruesome Outlander scene took place. From here it’s a short drive back to Glasgow. You leave Glasgow and venture into the Renfrewshire Hills. You have a chance here to admire the largest windfarm in Europe, Whitelee Farm. These massive turbines provide clean energy to over 180, 000 homes. From here, you take the road south through rich farmlands into Ayrshire. Now it’s time for one of our favourite stops of the day, the Culzean Country Park. There’s so much to do and see here: take a wander and enjoy the walled garden, ogle beautiful coastal views, and get jealous of the beautiful furniture of this fine country house. You’ll need to pay an entry fee but it’s worth every penny. You have time for lunch at Culzean before travelling to the village of Dunure. This harbour town hosts a ruined castle and a history of dark secrets. The road now takes you down to the village of Alloway. This is the region that inspired Scotland’s most famous poet, Robert Burns. You get the chance to enjoy the visitor centre to learn about how this poor farmer’s son became the writer of the world famous ‘Auld Lang Syne’. There are also riverside walks and the haunted ruins of an old church for you to explore. You return to Glasgow in the early evening.

You travel north into the Highlands, and over the “Rest and be Thankful” pass to the whitewashed 18th century town of Inveraray, home to the Duke of Argyll’s Castle. Following a visit to Inveraray, you continue to the iconic Kilchurn Castle*, magnificently situated at the head of Loch Awe and surrounded by towering mountains. After lunch in the fishing port of Oban, famous as the Gateway to the Isles, you will continue along the stunning west coast through Appin, passing the impregnable Castle Stalker, before spending the afternoon in the majestic beauty of Glencoe, one of the Scots’ favourite mountain regions. Then its onwards across the wild Rannoch Moor heading south, stopping at Loch Lomond on the way before your return journey to Glasgow. Visit Glen Coe and ride the Jacobite Steam Train along the West Highland Coast. Leaving Glasgow in the morning, we embark on a scenic drive through Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. We’ll traverse through the remote wilderness of Rannoch Moor, before making a stop at Glen Coe to soak up stunning views of its dramatic peaks. Then, get excited for the famous Jacobite Steam Train! Departing from Fort William, the train winds its way along Scotland’s rugged west coast, crossing the legendary Glenfinnan Viaduct, known from the Harry Potter films. Disembark the train in Mallaig, with time to explore the town and find a local lunch spot. Mallaig is a well-known fishing port, so don’t miss the chance to try some fresh seafood! After lunch, we continue along the scenic Appin coast, passing by the beautiful Kilchurn Castle, nestled on the shores of Loch Awe. Next, we make our way to the historic town of Inveraray for a brief exploration and a chance to admire the peaceful waters of Loch Fyne. As we make our way back to Glasgow, enjoy stunning views of the Arrochar Alps as we pass by the renowned Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint, arriving back in the city in the evening.
