Cubilete`s Hill
At 2579 above sea level, on top of Mount Cubilete, sits its this beautiful and historically significant sanctuary to Cristo Rey. The monument, in addition to being situated in the dead centre of the country is also one of the most historically important religious shrines in Mexico. It was originally the site of a smaller monument but this was destroyed during the so-called Cristero War in the latter stages of the Mexican Revolution. Walking Tour in Guanajuato
Discover and explore the historical centre of the magnificent city of Guanajuato in this four hour walking tour and learn all about the fascinating history, culture and legends of this old colonial town. The historic town centre of Guanajuato was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 and you'll see why as we stroll around narrow lanes, cobbled alleyways and underground streets. The area is packed with unique baroque and neo-classical architecture, with dozens of buildings dating from the 16th to the 19th Century. Some of the buildings we will see include the neo-classical Juarez Theatre, generally considered to be one of the most beautiful theatres in the country, the Convent of San Pedro de Alcantara, the Basilica of Guanajuato dating from the 17th Century, the University, the Old City Hall and the massive Alhondiga de Granaditas, an old grain store that was the site of the first battle of the Mexican War of Independence. We will also visit the Callejon del Beso (the Alley of the Kiss) where it is said that if lovers kiss on the third step, they are guaranteed seven years happiness together. This guided tour takes approximately 4 hours and includes hotel pick up and drop off and transfer. Please note that admission to the Juarez Theatre and Alhondiga de Granaditas is not included. We suggest you bring comfortable shoes and clothes, sunglasses and a cap, sun block and extra cash in case you want to purchase souvenirs or food. Guanajuato City Tour
Discover the beautiful city of Guanajuato with this marvellous guided tour and learn all about its main attractions. Famed for its old-style colonial architecture, Guanajuato is bound to capture your imagination with its charming cobblestone streets and fascinating legends of olden times. The first stop will be the Museum of the Mummies. This grisly museum contains around 100 mummified corpses of some of the victims of the cholera outbreak of 1833, disinterred between 1865 and 1933 when their relatives could not pay the burial tax. Then we will climb up into the hills above the city, heading for the Monument to Pipila, where you will enjoy breathtaking views over Guanajuato, before driving through the tunnels of the old residential area where we will visit a mine in the district of Valenciana. Next stop is the impressive Church of San Cayetano, dating from Spanish colonial times, built in the Churrigueresque style and containing beautifully gilded altar pieces. We'll then pay a visit to the Dungeons of the Holy Inquisition where several artefacts and instruments of torture from this dark period of history are on show. Finally we will visit a local market where you can try some of the region's typical cakes and pastries.
